ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF ATTITUDE: The Ridiculousness of Weddings
It might not make me popular in the dating scene, but I will say it: the whole idea of weddings is ridiculous to me. I will never, ever, ever have a wedding. Now, bear with me - I am no Grinch and this is no “love is the pitfall of the weak” sentiment here. I love love. Love…
i was just thinking about weddings earlier today. i never plan to get married/have a wedding. but, i think that the concept of weddings is actually a really nice one, minus the marriage part, which is just a weird tradition to me. i think a lot of people (americans especially) are overly superficial in many aspects of their lives, weddings included. a lot of people have a really sort of clouded over concept of weddings: too often do people care needlessly about them, when in actuality their wedding is not much different from hundreds of other weddings, and they spend a lot of money doing it. it’s almost as if some people care more about spending a lot of money than creating a beautiful wedding; they’re afraid or something. however, the weddings i’ve been to have been beautiful and have spoken a lot about the individual personalities of the bride and groom. the last wedding i went to was in an orchard in northern california and the wedding before that was in a beautiful wooden boat house next to the ocean. sometimes i think i’d love to have a wedding even though i wouldn’t want to get married because i think it’s a beautiful idea to have everyone you care about together in one place eating, dancing and drinking together. i’m very sentimental so hearing speeches and photographs and people are really special to me. i don’t think it’s fair to generalize weddings as cheesy when those are the only weddings youve been exposed to; it speaks more about the people who had the wedding, not the wedding itself. a wedding only exists because people exist… this would be more aptly titled “the ridiculousness of people” BUT THATS JUST ME
